Chapter Four, Team Chaos Revealed
Kurama barely slept at all the night after his team defeated Team Rokuyukai. He wasn't nervous,actually, the more often than not serious minded demon reincarnate was experiencing feelings he had never dealt with before.
The little cat he had found,or rather had found him,last night seemed to have triggered some long dormant memories from his former life.Who or what was she? Certainly not any typical house cat,the entire episode seemed extremely out of place.
Kurama had secretly followed his new feline friend for a little while,but lost her on one of the upper floors,where he was not allowed admittance. Hiei had followed the burgundy cat,but had not spoken of whether or not he had actually caught up with her.
I'm just being silly, Kurama thought, I need to worry about surviving this tournament right now,not some sweet, little cat.
As Kurama turned to leave and head out to the stadium,he noticed Yusuke and Kuwabara,still asleep and snoring in the next room. He decided that there was no need to wake them yet,they definatly needed their rest.
But before Kurama could leave,he saw movement on the beach below. Looking down from the window,he saw one of Toguro's bodyguards leading a procession of five cloaked figures.
While pondering the identities of the odd group,Hiei suddenly appeared beside him. "It's too warm a morning for so many clothes." ,the fire apparition hissed.
"I agree," Kurama said, turning to his friend, "Just what is Toguro up to?" Hiei shrugged, "Hard to say,want to go try and find out? There are still a few hours before the tournament resumes."
"We could try,I suppose." They turned to leave, "By the way Hiei, interesting cat chase last night wasn't it?"
"Those were no cats." Hiei replied.
It certainly was not easy for them to follow the huge bodyguard and his group. Even though the sun had not fully risen,there was way too much light to remain safely hidden for long. Hiei was almost certain that the bodyguard was aware of he and Kurama's presence.
"Maybe we should withdraw, it's obvious that guard knows were tailing them." Hiei wasn't ready to give up yet though, he was determined to see exactly who was under those cloaks, almost as if he were compelled to do so.
Kurama knew from experience not to try and talk his teammate out of anything he had set his mind to, it was quite pointless. "Look!", Hiei hissed, grabbing him by the arm and pointing down the beach. Younger Toguro stood there quietly, only a few feet from the approaching group.
The big man signaled to his demon guard, who immediatly turned around and glanced from side to side. "Toguro knows we're here, we have to leave now!" Kurama whispered to Hiei urgently.
The five veiled figures were looking around now too, one of them spotted Kurama and gasped. Another standing beside the startled one, turned and stood perfectly still, gazing directly at the two tresspassers.
Rikutu vainly attempted to catch the extremely fast pair of interlopers,but they had seemingly disappeared upon detection.
Mist walked over and elbowed Ember, "What is going on here, are you behind this?",the team captain snarled.
"What, who me?", the extremely confused cat demon said, unable to get her thoughts together and correctly answer. Dawn decided to intervene, "Ember had nothing to do with that Mist, it's okay."
"She better not have.", the half demon was definatly losing patience with her teammates, "That seemed too odd to just be a coincidence, it better not happen again you two.", she said glaring at them,then walked away.
Dawn breathed a quick sigh of relief, "You alright Ember?", she asked,patting her friend gently on her shoulder,the girl was trembling.
"I guess so," Ember said finally gaining control of herself. "What the heck was that all about,why did they follow us?"
"I don't know,just their curiosity about our master I guess.",Dawn said trying to reassure Ember and herself,but she was trembling under her cloak as well.
Attempting to follow their master's instruction proved to be terribly difficult for Team Chaos this morning. Not that any training session with Toguro was ever easy, quite the contrary, but today it seemed as if none of the girls could concentrate.
Every team member had something on her mind. Toguro,sensing their anxiety, decided to address the problem,"None of you must let anything deter you from your duty today. I will accept nothing less than perfection once you are in the ring.", he said. All of the girls immediatly bowed to their master,a couple of them were rather glad to hide their blushing faces.
After training was over, Team Chaos quietly returned to their hotel rooms to prepare for their soon to be unveiling.
"Why won't my damn spirit gun work?", Yusuke Urameshi wondered aloud, glancing from his index finger, over to the ugly,dead demon lying on the ground in front of him.
The demon,calling himself Rugby, had attacked Yusuke while the spirit detective had been alone in the forest not too far from his hotel.
Without the aid of his reigun, Yusuke had only been able to dodge the demon's attacks. Oddly enough though,Rugby's team captain, a huge dark skinned demon warrior, had arrived just before his teammate had landed a potential killing blow.
The huge demon captain was enraged at Rugby and killed the weaker demon, stating that he would be the one to end the spirit detective's life fairly,in the ring.
Well that was pretty crazy, Yusuke thought,still glaring at his useless finger, I'm so popular here,they all really do wanna kill me! As the teenager contemplated this, one of his teammates, Kuwabara came running up,panting and yelling his name.
"Urameshi, I've been looking all over this island for you! Why do all of you guys leave me so much, huh?" Yusuke laughed at his friend, "Maybe it's because you're so damn boring Kuwabara." , he snickered.
Kazuma's face turned bright red, "Shut up, anyway, I came out here to tell you that the tournament comittee has made some kind of announcement saying that all remaining teams have to go and watch the next two matches."
"What's Toguro up to now,maybe he's just showing off." Yusuke spat, "Why do we have to go and watch that?"
"You shouldn't whine so much," a soft voice said, seemingly from nowhere, "You could be crippled and screaming in pain like another member of your team."
"What the," Yusuke said startled,he looked down and saw the masked fighter glaring up at him."Where did you come from, who's crippled?" The masked fighter only continued to silently stare. "Hey, I asked you a question!"
But the little fighter had already turned to leave, "Your spirit gun will return in time Yusuke, now don't you think you should get to the stadium, this is mandatory you know."
The huge arena was crowded way beyond it's capacity,and smelled terrible. "Geez,don't demons ever bathe?" Yusuke said, pushing his way to a seat next to Kurama and Hiei. "So, this is where you two have been all day eh, I should've known." The team captain surveyed the crowd, and noticed the masked fighter was not there yet. "So much for all of us having to be here." ,he muttered angrily.
Kuwabara arrived and took the seat next to Yusuke, "Hi guys, what's going on?" Kurama looked at him and shrugged his shoulders, while Hiei feigned disinterest.
"This is so stupid," Yusuke said, "how long is this gonna take anyway?"
"Team Toguro's fight is up next," Kurama told his aggitated friend, "Team Ichigaki just finished."
"Okay," Yusuke said yawning and reclining back into his seat,"Wake me when it's over."
Hiei glared at Yusuke, "Some team captain we've got." , he sneered, "Only Koenma's stupidity would allow him to let a human lead us."
As Team Icigaki left the ring, a small, cloaked figure dashed out to the announcer Koto,and handed her an envelope. As she opened it, reading the contents, the announcer's eyes nearly fell from their sockets.
Looking to the audience in astonishment, Koto began to speak, " I have a very interesting announcement to make! The tournament commitee has asked that all teams participating in the Dark Tournament, those of you who are still eligible that is, are to report to the arena immediatley to observe the next fight! There will be a thirty minute intermission, so hurry up and find some seats!"
Kurama gave Hiei a knowing look. Yusuke sat up quickly, "What in the hell is going on, why do we all have to watch Toguro's fight?What's that jerk up to, other than showing off?"
"See Urameshi!" , Kuwabara spoke up, "I told you!"
"Glad to see you boys got my message," , Botan said, peering out from between Yusuke and Kuwabara's shoulders.
"Well it's about time you showed up!", Yusuke spat at her, "Now what's going on?"
"I have no idea, Koenma contacted me this morning and told me to be sure and let all of you know that you would have to watch Team Toguro's fight today. He didn't say anything about all of the other remaining teams having to be here though."
The masked fighter walked over and sat down. "This is odd," ,Kurama said, "Why would everyone have to be here to observe one fight?"
"It seems we're about to find out.", Hiei said, directing the team's attention to the ring where Koto was standing.
"This better be good, we've been waiting all damn day!" , a demon yelled.
Koto merely smiled up at him, "You better believe it's gonna be good people, and now, what you've all been waiting for, Team Toguro!"
Younger Toguro walked casually out to the ring, alone. The demon crowd erupted in cheers for their favorite fighter.
Koto then introduced the opposing team, the Spirit Warriors. They were all big, very big. Even the smallest of them dwarfed the reigning tournament champion.
"Where is your team?" , one of the warriors asked. Toguro smiled up at him, "I was thinking about fighting alone today."
The Spirit Warrioirs were all completely shocked, "Don't you have a team?", a fat, fish looking demon asked.
"Of course,", Toguro replied calmly, "But they all happen to be extremely lazy and don't want to fight."
"Well if this man has let all of his fame go to his head, and has a death wish, then so be it.", a demon resembling a huge sumo wrestler said angrily.
"Begin!" Koto yelled with a flourish, then quickly stepped back out of the way. Two of the fighters rushed Toguro, who simply punched both of them in their stomachs, and his fist exploded right through them. Blood and entrails were spewed over the entire ring.
"EW!" , Botan said, ducking down into her seat, "How did he do that?"
Yusuke and the others just stared in disbelief at the destruction before them. Toguro quickly finished off all of the remaining team members the same way, then turned and stared directly at Yusuke.
"The winner of the match, Team Toguro!" Koto said smiling.
"That was unbelievable.", Kurama said, obviously shaken.
Toguro asked Koto for her microphone, and began to address the crowd, "Now I have a special exhibition match for your entertainment." Seemingly out of thin air, five cloaked figures stood in the ring beside him.
"What now?", Yusuke said, "An exhibition match, who the hell are those guys?"
"I've got a bad feeling about this Urameshi.", Kuwabara said, leaning forward for a better look.
"Quiet fool," ,Hiei spat, "Just watch." Kurama glanced over at him knowingly, "Now we'll see the truth.", he whispered.
"What are you two whispering about over there?", Yusuke said angrily. An evil glare from Hiei quickly silenced him.
Toguro spoke again, "I'm very proud to present, for the first time anywhere, Team Chaos."
Simultaneously, all five figures removed their cloaks. The crowd sat in an awed silence for a few moments, until the deep voice of Kuwabara broke it, "they're all girls!", he yelled.
"An entire team of females?", a demon from the crowd gasped, "I've never heard of anything like that before."
"Me neither", his companion sitting next to him agreed, "But if Toguro's promoting and training them, they have to be good."
"They're beautiful," Kurama sighed, his green eyes locked onto a cat demon with one long, blonde braid falling down her slim shoulders.
As he stared at her, the demon girl looked right up at him and smiled. Instantly he knew that she had to be the little white cat that had visited him the night before.
Kurama glanced over to Hiei who was himself gazing very intently at the girl standing right beside the cat demon. She was tall, and had long hair the color of fresh blood. Her most interesting feature was definatly her eyes, they cut through the dimly lit stadium like white fire.
Hiei had immediatly recognized her by those crystal blue eyes, "I knew you were more than you appeared to be.", he whispered.
As if in response to his words, she looked up at him and smiled; Hiei quickly looked away.
"It seems as if we've found our cats." Kurama said, "How did they decieve us, I couldn't feel their true energy until now."
"Their master has obviously taught them very well." Hiei smirked, "They're certainly beautiful, and clever, but I'm more interested in their fighting skills."
"Oh baby!!", another spectator screamed at the girls, "Toguro's brought some pretty girls to dance for us!" Then all of the crowd erupted in laughter and cat-calling.
Toguro merely smiled, "I assure you all, my girls can most certainly dance, but they prefer to kill. I'll let them prove that to you themselves." The big man turned and nodded to his all female team, then stepped out of the ring.
"You heard him people!" Koto cried into her now relinquished microphone, "Who's gonna be the lucky team that gets to tangle with Team Chaos?"
Five large, ugly demons walked out and approached the ring, "We'll fight these little girlies.", the team's apparant leader called out. He was huge and filthy, carrying a gigantic wooden club, covered in metal spikes.
"And just who might you be?" Koto asked, as the new team smugly entered the ring. "We are Team Tekiate, and we will defeat these females easily." He and the rest of his team looked their opponents up and down, laughing and licking their lips disgustingly.
"Then it's official, Team Tekiate versus Team Chaos!" Koto cried, raising her arm to signal the beginning of the bout.
Sakyo and Karasu stood watching from the VIP booth, "Finally we can begin, it's about damn time.", Sakyo said, lighting another cigarette.
"Yes," Karasu whispered, "Team Tekiate was quick enough to take up our challenge, now we habe the pleasure of watching them die."
Sakyo laughed, and took a sip from his drink, "Lambs to the slaughter." he said smiling.
